James Roe Jr. Opens Week with Fastest Speed and Shows Consistency at PITT Race

James Roe Jr. made the best of a difficult situation in regards to overtaking competitors

Preparing for rounds six, seven and eight of the F3 Americas Championship Powered by Honda during a two-day test last week, wheel-to-wheel action in the growing program commenced this past weekend at the Pittsburgh International Race Complex. Irish man James Roe Jr. and his Global Racing Group team topped the time charts on Tuesday and showed great speed as well as consistent finishes as they battled in the top-five throughout the weekend on a track where passing opportunities are at a premium.

After pacing the field during Tuesday's official test session, and running in the top-three in times on Wednesday, Roe continued with his top-five performances on Friday during official practice.

"Early in the week, things were looking good for us," explained James Roe Jr. "The speed was there, the lap times were at the front of the field, and we were progressing towards the weekend. We ended Tuesday as the quickest car on track and that provided a great benchmark moving to the race weekend. We had a moderate qualifying session, not a great one, but a tenth quicker could have changed the complete outcome for the weekend."

Qualifying in the fifth position, only one tenth of a second away from P3, the Global Racing Group driver hovered in the fifth and sixth positions for the rest of the race weekend.

Roe continued, "The Pitt Race facility is one of the hardest tracks to pass on that we will race all season. In the 105 minutes of wheel-to-wheel competition, there were three full race distances and a total of five passes amongst the top six cars total. Getting out front was key, and though we had great race pace, we were stuck in the train of cars."

Starting fifth and maintaining his position to finish P5 in race one on the weekend, Roe started race two from P7. With fastest laps setting the grid order for the next on track action, the ever consistent driver was able to finish sixth in both race two and three on the weekend. Running at the tail of a four-car train in race two and only a few spots from a podium finish, passing was basically non-existent in the F3 Americas cars throughout the weekend.

"While the results are good, they are not what I desire as a race winner," added the Ireland native. "It is clear that we have the consistency and speed, we just need to get the track position. With five drivers separated by .25 of a second, I need to ensure that I am at the front of the cue for future events and not just in the top-five or six."

Roe continued, "A big shout out to the team, teammates and my partners for the help and support throughout the 2019 season. Also, congrats to Dakota Dickerson for a weekend sweep."

The next on track action for James Roe Jr. and the F3 Americas Championship Powered by Honda is one month away. Taking place at the Virginia International Race Circuit over the July 26-28 weekend, Roe and his Global Racing Group effort will continue to push hard and work tirelessly to ensure success for team, driver and partners.
