Abel Dominates Second-Straight F3 Americas Weekend

Six straight wins for Abel team; driver Kirkwood adds to personal win string

Top-tier open-wheel racing team Abel Motorsports added to its burgeoning reputation over the weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, romping to its second consecutive sweep of the new Amethyst Beverage F3 Americas Championship Powered by Honda. Driver Kyle Kirkwood wheeled the Abel Motorsports No. 8 Ligier/Honda to three consecutive victories, winning the three F3 Americas rounds by a total of nearly 56 seconds.

In doing so, Kirkwood, the reigning F4 U.S. Championship title holder as well as the 2018 champ of another key development series, added to his commanding lead in the inaugural season of the Amethyst Beverage F3 Americas Championship.

Team Principal Bill Abel noted, “This weekend was a huge step forward for our team.   We are showing that we can respond to a variety of new challenges, while continuing to perform at a championship level. We couldn’t be more pleased to add to our F3 Americas points lead. Kyle did an amazing job for us.”

For his part, Kirkwood, the 19-year-old from Jupiter, Florida, continues to add to his outstanding 2018 record. The three Mid-Ohio wins make an amazing 15 straight victories this season for Kirkwood, and 17 wins in 19 total starts over two series. It’s an unofficial American open-wheel record performance.

“I doubt it could’ve gone much better," commented Abel Motorsports race engineer Ian Brown. “Kyle has such a unique combination of skills. He operates at a level that I’ve only seen from guys fighting for top-level professional championships. I’m looking forward to the events ahead that we’re running together. He’s one of a kind.”

The Abel Motorsports team has big plans for the stretch drive of the F3 Americas inaugural season. A second team car is likely, in time for the third F3 weekend coming up at New Jersey Motorsports Park in mid-September. That event  will see the Amethyst Beverage-supported series running alongside the hugely-successful F4 US Championship Powered by Honda.

“That will be a real opportunity for our team," commented Team Principal Bill Abel. “We are competing in three top-level open-wheel series this season, and this will be our second time running in two series at the time at the same track. It’s a big order, but we expect big things from our guys. We’ll be ready for the challenge.”

Abel Motorsports is competing in multiple open-wheel developmental championships in 2018, the team’s second year of professional racing operations. Abel Motorsports has just debuted its official team website, www.abelmotorsports.com, and is accepting inquiries about driving opportunities in several different categories of cars including F3 and F4.
