Summer Engineering Internship | Nikhil Srinivasan

University of Florida Engineer Playing Integral Role in JENSEN Driver Development

August 3, 2023 - Nikhil Srinivasan can add race-winning engineer to his already impressive professional resume. Entering his junior year studying mechanical engineering at the University of Florida, 20-year-old Srinivasan joined the JENSEN F4 U.S. and Formula Regional Americas Championship teams as an engineering intern in May 2023.

Sharing his insights about the experience, Srinivasan stated, "While I have a mechanical engineering background through my ongoing college education, I didn't have any practical experience with race cars until I joined JENSEN. This internship allowed me to work directly with the cars and drivers of a race-winning Formula 4 and Formula Regional Americas team. I was given real responsibilities within the team, and I was able to make a difference during race weekends."

Srinivasan continued, "I have been able to work with a team of highly skilled and experienced mechanics and engineers who taught me both the science and process behind making race cars competitive both over one lap and race distances. I have also learned valuable communication and collaboration skills, which are critical when working within a race team at events where time between on-track sessions is often short."

"Ultimately, I want to pursue a career as an engineer in Formula One, so this opportunity has been incredible to learn how I can apply my knowledge about vehicle dynamics, car mechanics, car setup, and data analysis. While working directly with the team owner, Eric Jensen, I learned how to be an effective leader and operate professionally within a racing team. This internship experience exceeded my expectations in terms of how much I would learn and how much responsibility I would be given," concluded Srinivasan.

JENSEN team owner Eric Jensen comments, "We have enjoyed considerable success providing practical experience to talented university engineers in recent years. Nikhil Srinivasan has certainly shown himself to be among our best yet, and he has quickly become an integral part of our team's core group of engineering performance decision makers."
